Introducing

1993 was brought in by adidas Skateboarding to launch the Mike Arnold colourway of the recently debuted Copa Nationale silhouette. Extending the narrative of the product to suit the distinctive style of Mike, our campaign was built around his character, his passions and the connection to his adopted home of Peckham, London.

The colourway and details were inspired by the outdoors, with Mike combining his love of skateboarding and nature, which resulted in a trail shoe look fully tailored to skating. The campaign reflected this connection in an abstract way with the viewer invited on an intense journey of cliff jumping, which is Mike’s speciality.

Filmed, directed and edited by his friend and roommate Jacob Harris, the clip was shot on grainy 16mm film to emphasise feel and the connection of the subject. Accompanying photography was shot by Henry Kingsford, which collectively with the way the film trailer was edited set the content up to go viral and resonate beyond the skate community.

After many re-posts and curious minds, the full version of the film, and intense cliff jump (performed by Mike himself), was unveiled to much applause alongside a never-been-done Switch 360 kickflip at London’s famous Big Ben road gap. The trick made #No.1 in the coveted Quartersnacks weekly Top Ten and the full clip opened up the current episode of Thrasher Magazine’s ever popular Skateline series.
